Bali's beaches are so beautiful the thought of being deserted on its shores would be to many a dream more than a nightmare of the Crusoe-type fiction. Wonderful clear blue water kisses endless sandy shores against the beautiful backdrop that is its dense tropical jungle. The gentle waters on the eastern side of the island are ideal for families who want to enjoy the peace and tranquility of this tropical paradise.

On the western side it's more of for the adrenalin rush seekers with crashing waves providing some of the best surf beaches in the world. Snorkeling and Scuba diving opportunities around the Island are plentiful which is surrounded with coral reef, with beaches such as Nusa Penida famed coral viewing as well as beach sports for the more active castaway.

After beach combing, prise open the treasure chest that is Bali cultural heritage. Hindu temples abound, such as the Mother Temple at Besakih, one of the most revered. With good fortune you might time it well to see one of the many religious ceremony festivals, or even catch the superb Bali Arts Festival in the provincial capital Densepar during the whole of June.

Having feasted on the rich culture pickings you'll be hungry for the Island's cooked offerings. There's a huge amount to choose from with most tastes catered for in world cuisine, particularly in the more popular tourist locations. More common are the specialities of the south east Asian countries which are of exceptional quality and value. For a more local taste fresh local seafood cannot be beaten for price such as lobster and for a great local everyday food delights such as Nasi goreng (special fried rice) are a must-try.

Bali also provides the tourist with many markets to satisfy the shopping needs and more. Local crafts, such as wood carvings and precious metal works and other a are high on the agenda as is local hand woven cloth.

Be prepared to bargain as its expected that prices will come down to some extent. A little tip is to take cash to the markets (credit cards are not usually accepted at markets) and plenty of small change as small denomination notes are not readily available.

With so much to choose from its little wonder that the Island has received the acclaim of being the best in the world. This deserved success lies in the diversity of enjoyment to be gained for every age group. Something for the whole family, even for grumpy old Uncle Crusoe should he be lucky enough to be washed up on shore.
