The word vacation can get people very excited. Just thinking about it fills people with thoughts of fun times in interesting destinations. In today's world, just about any place on the planet can be a place to visit. The only difficult part is deciding where to go when you travel. Maybe you like to visit big cities. Or maybe you prefer the great outdoors. Or perhaps you like to combine the two somehow. Whatever your preferences, there is a perfect place for you. Here we will talk about a few places that are sure to provide you with a lifetime of memories.

Bali is usually thought of as an exotic place to visit. This island of Indonesia has spectacular views of varying geography. Coral reefs, mountains and sandy beaches are all here in one place. Many other attractions also abound. Most visitors like to visit one or more of the many temples such as the Uluwatu Temples, Tanah Lot or the Besakih.

Maybe you are thinking about the Swiss Alps. If so, you do not want to miss Zermatt. This is the village surrounding the most famous and recognizable mountain in the Alps, the Matterhorn. From Zermatt you can ride a cable car or rail to a mountain summit. In fact, there is one cable car service will bring you nearly 3900 meters up.

Another good option is Tokyo. There are a lot of things to see and do here. Like the British, the Japanese are serious about their monarchy. No visit is complete without a trip to the Imperial Palace. Here you will have views of amazing architecture and beautiful gardens. If you go on New Years Day or the Emperor's birthday, you can actually enter the palace.

Grandeur and art come together in a way that only The Louvre can manage. A staple of any trip to Paris, it is arguably the world's most famous art museum, and certainly the world's most visited. On average, fifteen thousand people go through its doors each day. Its collections are housed in the Louvre Palace, a building of exquisite beauty and rich historic tradition. Works by Rembrandt, Titian, and Raphael are all there. So is, of course, the renowned "Mona Lisa."

If France is on your docket, perhaps you will have time to go to the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in Colleville-sur-Mer. Those who do go find it hard to keep their emotions in check while looking at this final resting place of some 4900 Americans who died in the Normandy invasion and subsequent battles. The grounds are impeccable and each headstone is pearly white.

Rome, Italy is a popular destination choice. This is probably because there is so much to see and do. If you like to eat, you will likely be finding yourself in one or more trattoria, osteria, or ristorante. After your delicious meal, maybe you can stop by St. Peter's Square and enter the Basilica. Its interior is larger than that of any other Christian church. And while there, you will be able to see some works by Michelangelo.

Whatever your travel plans, there will always be something that suits your fancy. Maybe it will be a string of museums or palaces. Perhaps it will be a beautiful beach. In any case, all you need to do is look closely and you are bound to find something that will give you a lifetime of memories.
