The St Louis Blues first became members of the NHL or National Hockey League in 1967 when they joined. This team has held some of the most impressive players throughout history on the roster. The teams of long ago and the teams of more recent years have all had impressive players that were known as some of the best in the league.

Some of the original hockey stars that were a part of the team have included Jacques Plante, Doug Harvey, Glenn Hall, and Dickie Moore. While more recent hockey stars have featured Wayne Gretzky, Peter Stastny, Dale Hawerchuk, and Brett Hull. In addition to great and memorable players the team has also had memorable and great owners.

Some of the most famous co-owners of them were Emile Francis and Lynn Patrick who were most famous for their role as architects. There were famous team builders who helped them to soar to great heights especially Jimmy Devellano and Cliff Fletchen. Then Scotty Bowman, Al Arbour, Jacques Demers, and Scotty Bowman served their time coaching and bringing in many victories.

The team has had many successes although has yet to win a Stanley Cup. However with those successes have come a whole list of tragedies from the tragic deaths of players, to that of sports casters and even staff. So the team has had to learn how to persevere through the tough times in order to be able to celebrate during the good.

Each new owner has given the team different rules and set the mood of how the players felt and therefore also seen in how they played. The earliest owners were the toughest and focused solely on the game itself with little fun and no special treatment of their players. There were also some owners throughout history that wanted fun and even treated their players to lavish gifts in order to attract the best players.

In most conditions the owners have worked well together when there was more than one owner. However from 1971 until 1977 there was a time of turmoil and unrest amongst the owners until one eventually left, leaving only one. It was also at this time that there was financial issues that threatened the very existence of the team from 1976 until 1983 at which time the doors actually closed to the stadium and it seemed that there would be no more.

This could have been the end for the Blues but later that same year a new owner bought the team, actually missing out on the draft because it was already over. The team quickly became an industry leader at this time making handsome profits yearly. There is also a special spirit that fans feel about the team that was part of their coming back to the game to find success.

It is true that this is unique in that most sports fans do not have these same feelings that a St Louis Blues fan does. This could be for a number of reasons but is most likely due to the fact that they seen the good, the bad, the ups, and the downs and always came out on top. Thankfully this has secured them a future in the sport.
